Drs. Sean S. Koh and Stephanie Vanderveldt Included in Annual Physician Listing

Georgia Retina physicians Drs. Sean S. Koh and Stephanie Vanderveldt are among the city’s Top Physicians as listed in the March 2012 issue of Atlanta Hospital News.

Not only does Dr. Sean S. Koh treat patients at Georgia Retina, the state’s largest retina-only private practice, he also volunteers his time to explain eye-care issues to members of the city’s Korean community.

Dr. Koh and Dr. Vanderveldt are two of nine board-certified retina specialists at Georgia Retina.

Dr. Koh was born in South Korea and lived there until he moved to the United States to attend college. Fluent in both Korean and English, the Duluth resident is a regular guest on Atlanta Radio Korea AM1080 where he takes questions in Korean about eye-care issues.

He is also an active member of the Korean Church of Atlanta UMC where he volunteers at health seminars to help local residents better understand complex medical issues about their eyes.

After college and medical school in New York, he completed a vitreoretinal fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Stephanie Vanderveldt volunteers for Georgia Lions Lighthouse for the Blind’s Night of Spectacles and stresses the importance of vision care both at work and in her spare time.

The board certified ophthalmologist serves on the planning committee for the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation annual fundraiser.

Dr. Vanderveldt, a graduate of Princeton University and Duke University School of Medicine, helps plan the fashion show, in which artists incorporate scratched or broken eyeglasses into wearable dresses to compete for scholarships at area design schools.

The Lions Lighthouse project provides eyeglasses, eye surgeries, and hearing aids to Georgians in financial need.

Dr. Vanderveldt completed her ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Miami / Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.

At Georgia Retina, patients’ vision needs are the top priority. As one of the largest retina-only medical practices in the southeastern United States, Georgia Retina specializes in treating diseases of the retina, macula, and vitreous. Its nine board-certified ophthalmologists have received special Fellowship training in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery, and are engaged in clinical trials with the goal of advancing research into retinal diseases, their causes, and their cures.
