Biography
Dr. Richard Yi grew up in Gwinnett County, Georgia, where he completed his early education. He went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. It was during his medical school rotations that he developed an interest in complex diagnostic challenges and dedicated care associated with sight, a passion that ultimately inspired him to pursue a career in ophthalmology.
Following medical school, Dr. Yi moved to South Carolina to complete his residency training at Prisma Health/University of South Carolina, where his clinical acumen led to his appointment as Clinical Chief Resident during his final year. Seeking further specialization in the advanced diagnosis and management of vitreoretinal conditions, he relocated to Iowa for his vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the prestigious University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Throughout his training, Dr. Yi has been active in clinical research with studies presented at conferences and published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Alongside his research interests, Dr. Yi is passionate about medical education and mentorship. His dedication to training the next generation of physicians was recognized with the prestigious University of Iowa Ophthalmology Fellow Teaching Award.
Dr. Yi firmly believes that every individual deserves patience and compassionate, tailored care. He is committed to serving as a dedicated advocate for his patients and the greater community. When he is not in the clinic or the operating room, Dr. Yi enjoys spending quality time with his spouse and children.
