Biography

Dr. Lampert is a board-certified ophthalmologist and has practiced in Atlanta since 1980, exclusively treating retinal and vitreous diseases. He was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Lampert attended the Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. After an internship at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Thomas Jefferson University and Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, and a retinal and vitreous fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Lampert is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.

Growing up, Dr. Lampert always wanted to be a doctor. He chose his particular specialty because he loved the precision, the science, and the very close interaction with patients. As he moved through his residency, Dr. Lampert found that retina and vitreous surgery were both fascinating and complex as well as in the forefront of technology. Dr. Lampert noticed the surgeons and teachers he worked with were both bright and focused, and in turn they served as mentors for him in the field.

When asked about the most rewarding aspect of his career, Dr. Lampert said that “the gratitude of patients” is at the top of his list.  If Dr. Lampert were not a physician, he would have probably been a teacher.  In his free time, Dr. Lampert enjoys playing the saxophone and performing with two different bands. He also spends his free time being active by swimming and bicycling. Dr. Lampert is married with three amazingly interesting grown children and two perfect grandchildren.

Dr. Lampert was recently named one of Atlanta’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly.
