Dr. Rahul Komati was born and raised in the Bay Area of Northern California. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, he began his career in medicine at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, where he was a member of the Hobart Amory Hare Honor Society.
Dr. Komati completed his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan where he served as Chief Resident in his final year of residency and was awarded the David Barsky Research Award. He then completed a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago. Dr. Komati became a physician because he wanted a career where he could develop meaningful relationships with people and have the opportunity to positively improve their lives. After shadowing at a rural eye hospital in India as a high school student, he was inspired to pursue medicine as he witnessed the breadth of eye diseases and their global impact. Dr. Komati participates in numerous professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Surgeons, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Komati enjoys travel, discovering new cultures & cuisines, yoga, and biking outside of work.
