Georgia Retina Surgery Center

Georgia Retina Surgery Center is one of the only surgery centers of its size in the country that exclusively provides retinal procedures. There are no other non-ocular procedures and no non-retina-related ocular procedures performed here. You can be assured of the highest level of care since our staff and equipment are completely dedicated to this specialty.

Opened to Georgia Retina doctors and patients in 2010, Georgia Retina’s state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgery Center is licensed by the state of Georgia and has achieved the highest level of accreditation — a three-year award by The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities, one of the nation’s foremost ASC authorities.

Only Georgia Retina doctors and patients have access to our ASC, which gives our patients a more convenient and comfortable experience. Our cutting-edge center provides a warm and personalized setting for your procedure and is also less expensive than a traditional hospital outpatient department.

Your Procedure

On the day of your procedure, you will be welcomed by Georgia Retina’s specially-trained staff, who already have your chart and know your history, reducing repetitive questions to answer and duplicate forms to fill out.

We suggest you wear something loose-fitting and comfortable and leave any jewelry at home. You will be asked to change your shirt and wear a hospital gown, but you do not have to undress completely.

While in the operating room, you will be monitored closely by one of the experienced anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists and will receive medication to keep you relaxed during the procedure.

The day before your surgery, it is important to not eat or drink anything after midnight. Our team of highly qualified nurses will contact you prior to the day of your surgery to explain what to expect, what time to arrive, and how you should take any medications the morning of your surgery.

An experienced anesthesia provider is always present in the surgery center and in the operating room during your procedure.

Your primary care doctor will advise you regarding the exact plan you should follow. A brief physical examination is required and must be performed by your doctor no more than 30 days before your surgery.

You will be escorted to your car in a wheelchair after your surgery. This is required by Georgia law, even if you feel like you are able to walk.

You may feel some residual effects of the sedative medications for a few hours. You should not drive, operate machinery, or make important decisions for 24 hours after the surgery to allow the effects of these medications to wear off.

You will have a follow-up appointment the day after your procedure, and you should arrange for someone to drive you to that appointment. You may be asked by your doctor to maintain a certain head position if a gas bubble is placed in your eye. This is customized for your individual situation.
